A short Introduction
Cayo Animal Welfare Society
Who we are: CAWS is a non-profit that operates in the San Ignacio, Santa Elena, Benque areas and surrounding villages. We are funded 100% by donations, made up of a small group of volunteers who work to improve the lives of animals through rescue/foster/adoption, medical care, education, and our number one priority—our spay/neuter program.

We need your help
Next large Clinic
In January 2027 we have the honor to welcome veterinarians from Fondation Aide Vétérinaire Internationale (FAVI) in Quebec who will spend the week spaying and neutering dogs and cats with the help of local vets and volunteers.
We are asking for your help to raise the funds necessary to provide these surgeries for as many as 400 animals during our upcoming clinic.
The total sum required is estimated to be 10,000 US$.

Volunteer
Volunteering doesn't have to be complicated: Feed a stray, foster a rescue, assist a spay & neuter clinic, make a delivery. Together, these everyday choices add up to meaningful change and can directly save lives.
Educate
The most sustainable approach to change is education. By promoting responsible pet ownership, we can reduce animal suffering and create a kinder future for both animals and people.

Every animal deserves safety, care, and compassion. We work directly with pet owners and community members to improve our animals' lives!
Spay & Neuter Clinics
Sterilization is one of the most effective ways to prevent animal overpopulation, abandonment and suffering. We sterilize hundreds of animals every year through our low-cost spay & neuter program.
Fostering
Thanks to our volunteers and donors we are able to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray / abandoned animals. Giving them the second chance they deserve!
Community Support
We receive 100+ messages a week about animals in need. We do not have a shelter, however, through fundraising, networking, educating and financial assistance we are able to give the support our community needs to make positive changes.
Education
Through social media, school presentations, local events and good old fashion connection with our neighbors we are creating a cleaner, safer, and healthier community!
